The best places to live in Surrey

With a huge range of opportunities for all types of buyer, finding the best places to live in Surrey can be a challenge, with purchasers drawn typically to micro-regions within the county offering facilities particularly appealing to their way of life.

The Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere areas for example, are regarded by many as the best places to live in Surrey, particularly for those moving out of London with young families. Offering a fast, direct commute by train to London Waterloo, together with excellent road access to airports, motorway networks and London via the A3, these areas are incredibly accessible. Many buyers with young families are attracted by the amenities and facilities that Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere offer, together with the feeling of being more “in the country” although still within easy reach of friends and family back in London, sequentially these areas can provide the perfect location for those making their first move out of the capital.

Schools, both state and private, are excellent in these areas as well as the surrounding villages. Hascombe, Bramley, Wonersh, Shamley Green and Chiddingfold are all hugely popular due to their typically quintessential way of village life, complete with Grade II properties full of character and idyllic village greens. These areas also provide easy access to the coast via the A3 and, as most of the land around these towns and surrounding villages are classified as Green Belt and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the countryside offers a plethora of walking, cycling and horse riding opportunities, not to mention a beautiful place to live outside the hustle and bustle of London.

Other areas widely regarded as the best places to live in Surrey are Cobham, Esher and Weybridge. These areas, favoured by many in the entertainment and sporting professions, have been subject to a large amount of development in the last 10 years, with many new build, high specification properties offering the best of modern day comforts whilst remaining part of a town environment.

Typically these large new build properties are on gated developments and private residential roads, offering seclusion but also a sense of community. These areas are also extremely popular with international buyers who can enjoy the high specification living in a community which makes for easy integration. International buyers are also attracted to the area by the good accessibility to London via road and rail networks, as well as Heathrow airport. There is also a very well–renowned international school in Cobham which is a huge draw for international buyers wishing their children to be schooled in their native curriculum.
